Get Going!

Motivating_the_classThis week's Get Going! workshop is always full of surprises as we find out the way both we and others are motivated.

I love music. I'm listening to Saint Saens The Swan (several times over!) as I write this to get myself in a calm, contemplative mood. Not necessarily the mood everyone would want to get themselves going - especially to write their post, but it works for me.

Like a manager, a teacher has to motivate many individuals, all of whom will be motivated differently, not just to do certain things but also to stop doing others. I remember once working with a teacher who said but I motivate all children by calling them 'brilliant... clever... talented... exceptional...' 'Children love praise'.

But not all children do love praise. Just like adults, each of them is different and will respond well to different things.

  • Some will like praise, others commands
  • Some will like doing things as part of a team, others as individuals
  • Some will want to plan, others to drift
  • Some will like challenging, others obeying.

There are as many different motivational toolkits as there are individuals, and it's only when you've found yours that you'll start achieving the things you want to achieve.

So, put on The Swan now. Have we at least got one motivational tool in common?

Book now for our Get Going! workshop. You won't regret it.

Best wishes,
Nina
